WHO IS KATE?
The Meet Kate Foundation was officially established on April 27th, 2007. Kelly, the initiator of the foundation was inspired by the then four-year-old Ghanaian girl Kate. Read her story here:
In 2006, Kelly did five months of voluntary work in Ghana. During her stay she worked at a primary school and lived with a Ghanaian host family. They gave Kelly a chance to experience everyday Ghanaian life from up close. The young and enthusiastic children in the host family were very motivated and driven to learn. One of them, was Kate. Kate was the youngest member of the family, and was also the one with the hardest start in life. Her mother was only fifteen when Kate was born prematurely, at six and a half months. Kate barely weighed a kilo and her chances of survival were slim. Because her mother couldn’t care for her, Kate grew up with a great-aunt and her family. If it hadn’t been for her, Kate probably wouldn’t have survived. She now had a roof over her head, food on her plate and a school to go to everyday. Her smile and shining eyes show that she’s looking forward to the future. A future that, despite Kate’s enthusiasm, will remain insecure.
In order to enhance Kate's future prospects and that of other Ghanaian children, Kelly started the Meet Kate Foundation on her return from Ghana: named after the little girl who had inspired her. The girl you see in the pictures on this website are of Kate. Her bright smile and hopeful eyes represent what we stand for. This is our way to try to make a change and do something special. And we hope we can count on your support.
Kate represents the future the children in Africa deserve. Meet Kate, and understand why we started this foundation!
